CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's cross country team warmed up for the Big South Championships with a solid third-place finish at the Catamount Classic Friday afternoon.

 

The Bulldogs just missed winning the meet. Asheville had 50 points in the meet, just six behind winner ETSU (44) and five behind second-place Charlotte (45).

 

Asheville men's team took sixth place in the meet with 151 points.

 

On the women's side, junior Erin Dalton led the Bulldog efforts with a fourth-place finish as she posted a time of 19:03.44 over the 5K course. Freshman Phoebe Schneider took fifth with a time of 19:16.71.

 

Sophomore Sarah Heisner came in 10th at 19:35.56. Kasey Briggs finished 15th at 19:47.91. Adrian Etheridge took 20th at a time of 20:00.22.

 

Scarlett Beamon (20:18.77) and Maddie Lowe (20:46.88) rounded out Asheville's efforts on Friday.

 

The men's squad was led by Brent Schouler's 24th-place finish as he posted a time of 27:50.73 over the 8K course. Andy Thornburg was right behind Schouler in 25th at 27:57.22.

 

Caleb Smith was the Bulldogs next runner at 28:33.56. Ryan Catrine was next at 28:44.45. Kevin Paradise followed at 28:59.24.

 

Jared Buddington (29:12.61) and Nathan Kirse (29:42.12) rounded out the Bulldogs performances.

 

The teams will now get ready to compete in the Big South Conference championships on Nov. 1 at Gardner-Webb.
