High Point Edges Women's Soccer, 2-1

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point scored a goal in each half and made that stand up as the Lady Panthers edged UNC Asheville, 2-1 in Big South Conference women's soccer action Wednesday night at Vert Stadium.
The Bulldogs (8-7-1, 2-4-1 BSC) trailed 2-0 but scored midway through the second half on a goal from Emma Houser to cut the lead to 2-1. Asheville could get no closer.
High Point controlled most of the match as the Panthers held a 20-4 advantage in shots. Senior goalkeeper Heather Muller made nine saves for the Blue & White.
Freshman Meredith Dunker gave High Point a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute with her first collegiate goal. Dunker beat the Asheville keeper to a loose ball in the box and chipped a shot into the net for the go-ahead goal.
The Panthers doubled their lead in the 54th minute when a goal by sophomore Jenny Marshall put HPU ahead, 2-0. Junior Colleen Deardoff was played in on the right flank and delivered a cross into the box where Paige Rombach headed the ball down to Marshall. She settled the ball and slotted a shot just inside the left post from 10-yards out.
Asheville got a goal back in the 63rd minute with a headed score from Emma Houser. The Bulldogs earned a corner kick and Amanda Dailor delivered a dangerous ball into the box. Houser got her head on the ball six-yards from goal and delivered it into the net to make the score 2-1. It was Emma's second goal of the season. Dailor earned her eighth assist of the year, just one away from tying an Asheville school record for assists.
UNC Asheville is home this Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Coastal Carolina at Greenwood Fie starting at 2 p.m.
