Women's Swimming has Exhibition vs. Mars Hill on Saturday

RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team is in fourth place after Thursday's first day of the Highlander Invitational.

 

Asheville has accumulated 144 points and is behind Campbell, Mt. St. Mary's and Radford after Thursday's action.

 

“I am proud of our fighting efforts today. We swam well and had some tight races with a lot of fast swims,” stated Bulldog coach Elizabeth Lykins. “Tomorrow brings more opportunity to race and two additional relays. We are in a tight race for third and hope to gain ground on day two.”

 

Ashley Ireland finished second in the 50 freestyle as she posted a time of 24.64. She improved her time from the preliminaries in the morning where she swam a 24.67.

 

Galen Broido came in fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:09.61.

 

Asheville's 200 freestyle relay team came in third as the quartet had a time of 1:40.45. The relay team consisted of Alexandra van Dorsten, Kristen Lawson, Reed Jackson and Ashley Ireland.

The Bulldogs return for day two starting with preliminaries at 10:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m.
