Diamond Dogs Host Saint Peter?s At Greenwood Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C.  – The UNC Asheville baseball team will host its first home games at Greenwood Field this weekend, as Saint Peter's College out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in a pair of seven-inning doubleheaders on Saturday at Sunday.

First pitch on both days is set for 1 p.m., and admission is free to the public.

The Bulldogs are currently 3-1 on the year, having swept North Carolina Central in their first series of season before falling to UNC Greensboro in a midweek game.

Junior designated hitter Billy Creighton was named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week this past week, for his efforts against NCCU. Creighton batted .600 (6-10) with three home runs, nine RBI, one double, nine runs scored and five walks in helping the Bulldogs to a three-game sweep of North Carolina Central and snapping a 16-game losing streak in the process.  

In game one he went 1-2 with four walks and two RBI, in addition to three runs scored.  In game two, he was 2-3 with a homer, two RBI and crossed the plate three more times.  Creighton then went 3-5 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored in the series finale.  For the week, he posted a .733 on-base percentage and slugged 1.600.  

The Bulldogs are coming off of a 13-5 loss at UNCG on Tuesday afternoon. Senior second baseman Jordan Lurie paced the Blue & White offensively, going 3-for-5 as the leadoff batter with two runs batted in. Todd Joyner was 2-for-4 at the dish, with two RBI and two runs scored. Lurie also accounted for seven putouts defensively and one assist. 

The Peacocks are currently 0-3 on the young season, having dropped three games to UNC Charlotte last weekend. Charlotte took game one 4-1 before sweeping Saint Peter's 10-0 and 5-2 in a doubleheader the next day.
