Creighton Named Big South Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville junior Billy Creighton (Schenectady, N.Y.) has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while Liberty senior John Niggli (Tulare, Calif.) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played the opening weekend of the 2012 season, it was announced today by the League office.
Creighton batted .600 (6-10) with three home runs, nine RBI, one double, nine runs scored and five walks in helping the Bulldogs to a three-game sweep of North Carolina Central and snapping a 16-game losing streak in the process. In game one he went 1-2 with four walks and two RBI, in addition to three runs scored. In game two, he was 2-3 with a homer, two RBI and crossed the plate three more times. Creighton then went 3-5 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored in the series finale. For the week, he posted a .733 on-base percentage and slugged 1.600.
Niggli set the tone for the weekend for the Flames' hurlers, opening Liberty's season by shutting down the Richmond Spiders 12-0 on Friday. Niggli pitched the first six innings of LU's 23 consecutive scoreless innings to begin 2012, and held the Spiders to a .174 batting average. He did not allow a base runner past first base until the seventh inning. Niggli's line last week: 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 SO.
