BOSTON (MA) -- UNC Asheville's J.P. Primm earned the Lou Henson award national player of the week honors by collegeinsider.com on Monday night.
The 6-foot-1 senior had a career-high 30 points in Asheville's win over High Point on Thursday. He also had five assists and five steals in the win. On Saturday he had 23 points, 5 assists and connected on 5 three-pointers as UNC Asheville defeated Campbell.
For the week, he finished 16-for-30 from the field, 10-for-22 from three-point range, 11-for-11 from the free throw line and had a 10-to-1 assist-turnover ratio.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
