BREVARD, N.C. - Freshman guard Shonese Jones has her number "24" retired by Brevard High School Friday night prior to the Blue Devils game with East Henderson.
She is the first women's players at Brevard to ever earn that honor. Jones was surrounded by family, friends and her UNC Asheville teammates on Friday night.
The Etowah native completed her career as the school's all-time leader in career points for both boys and girls with 2,112 points. Her career point total is seventh best all-time in Western North Carolina. As a senior, Jones averaged 24 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals per game. She was the Hendersonville Times-News Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons and earned Honorable Mention All-State honors as a senior.
The rookie guard has made a smooth transition to college basketball as she's the Bulldogs leading scorer with a 14.6 average. Jones has been named Freshman of the Week twice and Player of the Week once this season.
Jones and the Bulldogs are in action tonight at home against Radford at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m.
