JOHNSON CITY, TENN. -East Tennessee State scored twice early in the game and made that hold up as the Lady Buccaneers defeated UNC Asheville 3-0 in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon.

ETSU (6-3-0) scored in the 7th minute as Genna Peterson scored the first of her two goals to give the Lady Bucs a 1-0 lead.

In the 19th minute, Lucy Gote tallied for the home team to build the lead to 2-0.

It stayed that way the rest of the half as the Lady Bucs led 2-0 at halftime. Asheville controlled play for much of the opening half as the Bulldogs out-shot ETSU 12-10. ETSU goalkeeper Caitlan Gaughan was forced to make eight saves in the opening half.

ETSU tacked on an insurance goal in the 59th minute as Peterson tallied her second goal of the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Heather Muller of Asheville made 10 saves for the Bulldogs in a losing effort.

The Bulldogs open Big South Conference play Thursday afternoon at VMI starting at 4 p.m.
