Men's Soccer Rolls Past Brevard 3-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Jake Hagedorn scored twice to lead UNC Asheville to a 3-0 victory over Brevard College in men's collegiate soccer action Monday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The Bulldogs (1-4-1) controlled the game for most of the way as they out-shot the Tornados (0-5-1) 18-6, and 14-0 in the second half.

"We got better as the match went on," commented Asheville coach Matt Kern. "Jake Hagedorn had a great match with two goals but I thought we had a wonderful contribution from everyone today. Hopefully, we can build on this victory."

Brevard had control of the game early in the match as it fired the game's first three shots. The Bulldogs began to get going in the middle part of the half and finally scored in the 29th minute.

In the second half, the Bulldogs really began to dominate the match and had the ball in the Brevard end for most of the half. However, Asheville could not get on the scoreboard as several shots went wide and Brevard goalkeeper Jack Shaw made three saves.

Finally, the Bulldogs took advantage of a Tornado defensive breakdown to pad the lead. David Wood sent a pass to Hagedorn 20 yards out. The senior midfielder was all alone when he got the ball and easily put the ball in the left side of the net for a 2-0 lead at 74:51. It was his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Asheville scored its final goal with four seconds remaining. Sophomore Kenneth Lingerfelt connected from 22 yards out for a 3-0 advantage. Freshman Paul Egle earned an assist on the play.

Bulldog goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen made two saves in the match to earn his ninth career shutout.

UNC Asheville begins a four-game road trip on Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs open Big South play at VMI starting at 4 p.m.
