ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville baseball program will be welcoming back its alumni this weekend with a golf tournament and an Alumni Game at Greenwood Field.
More than 30 former players will come back to Asheville this weekend for the festivities. There will be a golf tournament on Friday, followed by the Alumni Game on Saturday. Prior to the Alumni Game, there will be a Home Run Derby contest starting at 1 p.m., followed by the game at 1:30 p.m.
"Our alumni are so important to us," stated Bulldog coach Tom Smith. "They are always welcome back to our program at any time but we always want to have a weekend for them. I'm pleased to say that it's been growing every year. We want to keep making this weekend grow and get as many alumni back on campus as we can."
Some of the alumni scheduled to be back this weekend include Big South Tournament MVP Rob Vernon, who helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2006 Big South Conference championship. Also back is pitcher Jason Walker, who tossed the program's only no-hitter when he defeated Big South champion Liberty, 3-0 in 2000.
