09.11.2011 | Women's Soccer
The Bulldogs (0-6-0) controlled parts of the match and fired 13 shots at the ASU goal as Mountaineer goalkeeper Amy Kolowsky made four saves on the day.
Asheville coach Michelle Demko was pleased with the Bulldogs effort on Sunday.
"I am very proud of our effort today. It was a very even match, we were unlucky to give up a goal but we are improving and that is a bright spot for our program," commented Demko. "As the season goes on, we want to continue to improve and gain momentum for our conference opponents. We showed up for 90 minutes today and competed with a good App State team. We certainly had our chances to score but unfortunately the ball did not fall for us today."
The Bulldogs had a 9-7 edge in shots in the opening half but could not get the ball in the back of the net.
In the second half, ASU scored at 70:04 when Dodd took a pass from Hannah Coad and scored her first goal of the season.
The Mountaineers held a slight edge in shots 17-13. Bulldog goalkeeper Heather Muller made six saves for the Blue & White.
The Bulldogs return home this weekend for a two-game homestand at Greenwood Field. Asheville entertains Georgia State on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a match with South Carolina State next Sunday (Sept. 18) at 2 p.m.
