Asheville Falls To Blazers At UAB/Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In their final match of the 2011 UAB/Samford Invitational the UNC Asheville volleyball team fell to host UAB on Saturday afternoon at the Pete Hanna Center as the Blazers earned a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-21) victory over the Bulldogs in tournament play.
Asheville (1-2) could not get its offense on track in the match, recording only 30 kills while hitting .034 as a team. Senior outside hitter Cindi Miller led all Bulldogs with nine kills while newcomer Anna Moore contributed eight to Asheville's total.
Hallie Morse posted 15 assists and Jaimie Dorfman tallied 10 in splitting time at setter. Libero Alex Stewart had a team-high 20 digs and middle blocker Meredith Foster racked up a pair of blocks on defense.
UAB (3-0) was led offensively by Sam Serley who tallied a match-high 11 kills. Becca Howard and Alison Woods each had 15 assists leading the UAB attack while Heather Thomas posted a match-best 24 digs on defense.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend when they take part in the 2011 Gamecock Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina. Asheville will take on Elon and Davidson on Friday before taking on Gardner-Webb and host South Carolina on Saturday.
