Simon Haake Wins Javelin on Friday at Charlotte 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Simon Haake took first in the javelin Friday to highlight UNC Asheville's performance in the first day of the Charlotte 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track on Charlotte's campus.

Haake crushed the competition on Friday. His throw of 67.90 meters was more than seven meters better than Charlotte's Ethan Kuster (59.96).

Highlighting the women's side on Friday was the performance of Asheville in the 5000 meters. Melanie Kulesz finished second in the 5000 with a time of 17:47, while teammate Emma Bussard took third as she posted a time of 17:48.

Senior sprinter Natalie Pearson qualified for the 100 meters and 200 meters. She finished third overall in qualifying in the 100 with a time of 11.79. Pearson was the top qualifier in the 200 as she had a time of 24.26.

Events tomorrow will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m., with the shot put and javelin. Running events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with the women's 4x100-meter relay. Live results will be available on flashresults.com and results and a recap will be available on charlotte49ers.com.
