RICHMOND, KY. - The UNC Asheville baseball team will continue its road trip this weekend when the Bulldogs travel to Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series.
The three-game set was supposed to start on Friday at 2 p.m. but that game has been postponed due to rain. Asheville and EKU will now play a double-header on Saturday starting at Noon with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs (4-7) hope to end a seven-game losing streak this weekend. Asheville has played once this week and fell at Georgia State on Tuesday, 7-1 as the Dogs made five errors.
Eastern Kentucky is 3-8 on the season but has played a tough schedule. The Colonels opened the season at Pepperdine and have also played the likes of Penn State, Kentucky and Memphis.
"We played pretty well at Charlotte last weekend but just didn't win as we lost two one-run games," admitted head coach Tom Smith. "We're a very young team that's still learning about college baseball. However, we've also got some talent and we're going to start finding ways to win games."
Asheville is being led at the plate by sophomore infielder Robert McIntosh with a .423 average. Freshman Tommy Houmard is off to a nice start to his collegiate career with a .350 average. Houmard is 1-0 on the mound, as well with a 2.35 ERA.
Grier Harrington has pitched well for the Bulldogs this season as he's 1-1 on the year with a 3.38 ERA. He has 14 strikeouts in a team-leading 18.2 innings of work.
