CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville's Kelli Riles has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Cheyenne Parker of High Point was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 1-6, the League announced today.
Riles, a redshirt sophomore from Ellenwood, Ga., set the UNC Asheville standard for rebounds in a game and was one board off the Big South record as she ripped down 22 rebounds and put in 18 points in the Bulldogs' 70-60 upset over Radford on Feb. 5. The forward shot 50 percent from the floor and added four from the line in the win as well as 18 rebounds on the defensive glass. The honor marks her second Big South Player of the Week selection this season.
Parker, a center from Queens, N.Y., connected on 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 from the line to finish with 19 points in High Point's narrow 58-57 loss to Liberty on Feb. 5. She also corralled six boards to go along with two steals and a block against the Lady Flames. The honor marks her fifth Big South Freshman of the Week honor this season as she becomes just the seventh player in Big South history to earn the award five times in a season.
