ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The red-hot UNC Asheville baseball team will be on the road this weekend when the Bulldogs travel to future Big South Conference Campbell University for a three-game series starting with a single game on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The teams will play a double-header Saturday starting at Noon.
Asheville is unbeaten on the young season at 4-0 after a 3-0 victory at UNC Greensboro Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs opened the season at home with a three-game sweep of Murray State.
Ian Graham leads the Bulldogs on the season with a .462 average, knocking in four and scoring five times. Danny Baatz has driven in a team-high six runs while batting .353. Cody Buch has scored a team-best seven times while hitting .333 on the year.
Campbell is 3-2 on the season as the Camels took three games from North Carolina A&T last weekend and lost to Duke, 9-2 in their last game on Tuesday.
"Campbell has a good team with a lot of speed," commented Bulldog head coach Tom Smith. "They put a lot of pressure on your defense. We're going to have to be wary of them when they get on base.
"We're off to a nice start but it's a long season," added Smith. "There's plenty of work to be done and much that we can improve on this weekend."
The teams met last year on the opening weekend of the year with Asheville winning on opening day, 15-11. Campbell took the next two games, 5-4 and 11-2.
