ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team returns to action Wednesday evening when the Bulldogs host Brevard College at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will be video-streamed at www.uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (3-7) is coming off a dramatic win in its last game. The Bulldogs edged Mercer 76-75 on Dec. 21 at Kimmel Arena. Freshman guard Shonese Jones led Asheville with a team-high 20 points. Brittany Gwyn pumped in 17 points for the Bulldogs in the victory.

Betsy Blose's team hopes to get a win against the Tornados (5-3) to give Asheville a two-game winning streak as it heads into Big South Conference play. The Bulldogs open league play on Dec. 31 at High Point.

Asheville will not be looking past Brevard. The Tornados stunned the Bulldogs last year at Justice Center, 71-61.

"It was nice to get a win before the holidays," commented Blose. "I thought our team did a lot of solid things in the game. We had to hold on late in the contest but somehow we were able to pull it out. I hope we can build on that win."

Blose expects a strong challenge from Brevard on Wednesday.

"Brevard is much improved from last year, and they beat us last season," declared Blose. "We better be ready to play hard for 40 minutes."

The Tornados are led by senior guard Lindsay Brendle with a 14.2 scoring average. Brevard downed Pfeiffer 71-68 on Dec. 19 to break a three-game losing streak and improve its record to 5-3.
