Women's Hoops Travels to Furman Monday Night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will be on the road Monday night when the Bulldogs travel to Furman for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Timmons Arena.

The Bulldogs (2-1) are coming off a hard-fought 73-64 win over NAIA power Montreat Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena. The Paladins are
2-1 on the season and defeaed Troy on Satuday, 75-57.

Asheville defeated Furman last season at Justice Center, 86-75 behind 21 points and 15 rebounds from Kelli Riles. Bre Barksdale added 14 points and six assists.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs placed four players in double figures in the win over the Cavaliers. Gentry Manley paced Asheville with a career-high 17 points. Lindsey Thompson led Asheville with 18 points. Kelli Riles finished with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.

"Furman is a good team that will be tough to beat on the road," commented Asheville coach Betsy Blose. "We're still a work in progress. We're improving but we've got to keep getting better with each game."

The Bulldogs are looking for their first win at Furman since the 1983-84 season. An injury-riddled Asheville squad was beaten by Furman, 75-35 in the 2008-09 season in its last trip to Greenville.

Asheville's game with Furman starts a two-game road trip for the Bulldogs. They'll play next at George Mason on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs next home game at Kimmel Arena will be on Nov. 30 vs. USC Upstate at 7 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES

Gentry Manley has set career-high in scoring in back-to-back games. She scored 11 points at Western Carolina Wednesday night and 17 vs. Montreat on Sunday.

Freshman Leah Wormack has led Asheville in rebounding in back-to-back games as she had seven at WCU and 10 on Saturday vs. Montreat.

The Bulldogs were 7-7 on the road last season.

Asheville leads the Big South in free throw percentage at .766.

Grace Blaylock has 11 field goals this season with 10 being from beyond the arc.
