ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Ashton Bennett scored twice, once early in the match and once late in the match as #20 Coastal Carolina downed homestanding UNC Asheville 3-0 in Big South Conference men's action at Greenwood Field Saturday afternoon.

The Chanticleers (11-2-0, 5-0-0) won for the seventh straight time as the Bulldogs (3-7-3, 2-2-1) had a three-game conference unbeaten streak snapped.

"Coastal Carolina is a very good team, and we saw that today," commented Asheville coach Matt Kern. "It's hard to give up a goal so early and then try and come back. We did some good things after the early goal but couldn't get the ball in the back of the net."

Off the opening kick-off, Coastal Carolina sent the ball toward the Asheville goal. The ball deflected and went to right to Bennett who scored his 13th goal of the year at the 23-second mark to put the Chanticleers in front, 1-0.

Asheville settled down after that goal and controlled much of the play. The Bulldogs would out-shoot the Chanticleers, 7-2 in the opening half. Bryan Bartels had four of those shots. CCU goalkeeper Scott Angevine made one save on Bartels that looked like it might sneak in the back of the net.

In the second half, Asheville had another chance but a Kenneth Lingerfelt shot hit the cross bar. The Chanticleers began to take control midway through the half and kept their 1-0 lead safe.

The visitors put the game away with two goals in the final 13 minutes. Pedro Ribeiro scored at 77:16 on a direct kick from 15 yards out that put CCU in front, 2-0.

Bennett sealed the win with a goal at 86:17 off a feed from Henrik Robstad.

Coastal Carolina out-shot Asheville 10-5 in the second half as each team finished with 12 shots apiece.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Wednesday evening when they travel to Gardner-Webb for a 7 p.m. contest.  Coastal Carolina travels to Wofford Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
