The Bulldogs (3-11-0, 2-3-0 BSC) controlled much of the play after the early goal but hit the cross-bar and goal-post to keep them off the scoreboard. CCU goalkeeper Saudria Baron made six saves for the Chanticleers.
The visitors had some chances, as well. Bulldog goalkeeper Heather Muller stopped three CCU breakaways in the match keep the Chanticleers at one goal.
The only goal of the match came on the first series of plays in the match. Hannah Brown made a nice pass to Johnson. She dribbled to the 10 and then uncorked a shot from 10 yards to give Coastal Carolina the lead for good at 1-0.
Asheville came alive on offense after the opening goal and got its offense in gear but Baron made four saves in the opening period to keep the score 1-0 at intermission.
In the second half, the Bulldogs came out blazing and nearly tied the game early in the half when Margo Flewelling's shot in the box hit the cross bar.
Five minutes later, Leilani Halkiotis hit a shot from 10 yards out that hit the right goal post.
CCU (2-11-1, 2-3-0 BSC) had a chance to take a 2-0 lead as Kacey Kelley got loose on a breakaway that was smothered by Muller with 20 minutes left.
Coastal Carolina's defense did a good job in the final 10 minutes keeping the ball away from the Chanticleer goal.
The Bulldogs play next at home on Saturday when they host Charleston Southern at Noon. Coastal Carolina heads to Presbyterian College on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.
