Riles Named Big South Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville's Kelli Riles has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Emily Frazier of Liberty was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 13-20, the League announced today.
Riles, a red shirt sophomore from Ellenwood, Ga., shot 72 percent from the floor and posted two 20-point outings to lead Asheville to a 2-1 record over the holiday break. She got things going with 22 points on 11-of-13 from the floor and chipped in nine boards and a steal as the Bulldogs downed Mercer on Dec. 22. On Dec. 29, Riles scored 12 points on 44 percent from the field as Asheville dropped North Carolina Central, 67-56. She also ripped down nine rebounds and dished out two helpers in the contest. Five days later in Asheville's Conference opener against Radford, Riles poured in 20 points on 80 percent shooting and 4-of-4 from the line to go along with 11 boards.
Frazier, a guard from Magnolia, Texas, averaged 10 points on 52 percent from the floor to help the Lady Flames to a 3-1 record over the holiday season, including a win over Big South foe High Point. She notched a career-high 12 points on 50 percent from the floor in a Dec. 21 win over Virginia Commonwealth. Frazier then put in seven points against No. 18 St. John's on Dec. 28. The next day against La Salle, she reset her career-best as she finished with 14 on 4-of-6 from the floor, 2-of-2 from long range and 4-of-6 from the line as Liberty downed the Explorers, 73-53. She closed the four-game span out with seven points and eight assists as Liberty picked up its first Big South win of the 2010-11 campaign. She finished the holiday break with 10 rebounds, 15 assists and an 86 percent clip from the line.

Also nominated for women's basketball Freshman of the Week for Week 7: Anicia Dotson (Charleston Southern) and Catrina Green (Gardner-Webb).
