01.16.2011 | Women's Basketball
Asheville (8-7, 1-3 BSC) ended a three-game losing streak and picked up its first Big South Conference win of the season with a 65-53 victory at Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon. Lindsey Montgomery led the Bulldogs with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelli Riles had her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Charleston Southern (8-9, 2-2 BSC) rallied for a 52-47 home victory over Presbyterian College Saturday night. The Lady Bucs are a perfect 6-0 at home this season.
"We really played great defense on Saturday and were consistent for 40 minutes at Coastal Carolina," commented Bulldog coach Betsy Blose. "It was nice to see us bounce back and get a road victory."
The Bulldogs lost twice to Charleston Southern last season and have traditionally had a tough time winning at the CSU Fieldhouse.
"We're going to have our hands full on Monday night," stated Blose. "Charleston Southern is a great three-point shooting team and can score points in a hurry. We're going to have to be at our best to have a chance to win on both offense and defense to have a chance to win."
