ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team got goals from three different players as the Bulldogs downed visiting Brevard College 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The victory was Asheville's second straight and improved its record to 2-1-0. The Tornados fell to 0-3-1 on the young season.

"We did some good things today against a talented Brevard squad," stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern. "At times, we didn't play very well but Brevard has to get some credit for that. We still have work to do but it was good to get the win today and let's built from that."

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Bryan Bartels stole a ball from a Brevard defender and hit a rocket from 10 yards out to put the home team in front, 1-0 at 14:40.

Asheville put some more pressure on the Tornados in the first half but Brevard goalkeeper Jack Shaw had two nice saves in the period to keep the Bulldogs off the board.

The home team made it 2-0 off a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Jake Hagedorn tallied his third goal of the year as he scored off a corner kick pass from Connor Holzinger to push the lead to 2-0 at 63:28.

After going up 2-0, Brevard took command of the game as it fired the next four shots. The Tornados just missed scoring when a shot from Jamie Uuttu hit the cross bar in the 67th minute.

The Bulldogs put the game away on a penalty kick in the 85th minute. Holzinger scored his first goal of the season on the PK to give Asheville at 3-0 advantage.

Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen made six saves to earn his second straight shutout.

UNC Asheville has some time off before its play again. The Bulldogs will participate in the Lipscomb Classic in Nashville, Tenn.  and will face the Bison on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. CST.
