UNC Asheville Men & Women Both Finish Fourth At Big South Preview

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Competing at the 2010 Big South Preview hosted by Radford University both the UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams earned fourth place finishes running against conference opponents on Saturday morning.
It was an important event for the Bulldogs, as the Big South Conference meet will be run on the same course on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Freshman Tyler Michael posted the highest finish for men's squad, running the 8k in a time of 27:27.03 to finish in 11th place. Emma Bussard was the highest finisher on the women's side, posting a time of 20:03.71 in the 5k to pace the Bulldogs. Michael average mile time was 5:31.1 while Bussard recorded an average of 6:27.5.
For the men Eli Chirchir (27:34.59), Carlos Lopez (27:45.82) and Kent Rankin (28:03.84) all earned top 25 finishes, placing 15th, 19th and 25th, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Sam Maynard (28:38.04) finished 33rd and Adam Schnapp (29:08.32) finished 39th to round out the Asheville participants.
On the women's side Alyska Kalmeijer placed 19th with a time of 20:20.97 and Rachel Carson finished 23rd with a time of 20:30.66, giving Asheville three top 25 performers at the event.
Clair Powell finished 28th with a time of 20:56.78, Erin Putnam finished 38th with a time of 21:44.64 and Jennifer Black finished 46th with a time of 23:00.00.
