Bulldog Tennis to Host UNC Asheville Open This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's tennis teams will host the UNC Asheville Open this weekend at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center. Action gets underway Friday morning at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the weekend. Admission is free.

The Bulldog men's squad will face Brevard, Gardner-Webb and Mars Hill throughout the weekend. The women's team will compete against Brevard, Mars Hill, Western Carolina and Wofford.  Matches will start on Saturday and Sunday, also at 9 a.m.

"We're really excited about hosting a fall tournament of this magnitude," stated Asheville coach Lise Gregory. "We are looking forward to hosting these teams and having some great tennis throughout the weekend. It looks the weather is going to cooperate."

The men's team had their first fall competition last weekend at UNC Greensboro. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start on Friday but played well as the weekend progressed. This weekend's tournament will be the first action for the women's squad.

"The fall is a good time to see what you have to work on and try to get better," stated Gregory.
