Asheville Drops 3-0 Decision To JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison's Danielle Erb recorded a match-high 16 kills against UNC Asheville to lead the Dukes past the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Sinclair Gymnasium as part of the 2010 JMU Coca-Cola Classic volleyball tournament.
The Dukes survived the first set with Asheville, earning a 25-23 victory over the Bulldogs to go up 1-0 in the match. JMU would go on to take set two 25-15 after going on a 17-7 run after the two teams battled to an 8-8 tie to start the set. Asheville could not get its offense on track in the third set as they fell to the Dukes 25-13 in the final set to drop the match 3-0.
Asheville falls to 0-2 with the loss while the Dukes improve to 2-0.
Kelsey Benorden led the Bulldogs in kills with nine while teammate Cindi Miller added eight to the Asheville total. Hallie Morse recorded a match-high 24 assists in directing the Bulldogs' offense while Benorden also led the team in digs with 16. Meredith Foster recorded three blocks for Asheville in the loss.
JMU's Megan Wiechmann and Lauren Fanelli recorded 21 and 14 assists, respectively, while splitting time at setter. Natalie Abel led all players with 18 digs while Erb and Holly Wall chipped in 11 digs apiece.
The Bulldogs will finish out the 2010 JMU Classic later today when they take on the Hatters of Stetson.
