Bulldogs Drop Preseason Finale to ASU, 1-0

ASHEVILLE -- Playing in its final tune-up match before the start of the 2010 regular season, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Mountaineers of Appalachian State on Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium.
ASU's Lee Williams scored on a header in the 27th minute off of a cross from teammate Ryan Duffy. Duffy was credited with the assist on the game-winner by Williams.
The Mountaineers out-shot the Bulldogs, 17-5 on the night, while forcing six corner kicks to just two for Asheville. The Bulldogs' goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen posted five saves, while his counterpart Drake Branson had to make one save for Appalachian State.
Asheville had its opportunities but could not get many shots off thanks to a stifling back line for the Mountaineers. Bryan Bartels led the Bulldogs in shots with two while Chad Dalton and Sean Dreybus each took four shots for ASU.
The Bulldogs will open the regular season next weekend when they take part in the University of Kentucky Tournament. Asheville will open the tournament with IUPUI at 5 p.m. on Friday before finishing the tournament on Sunday with Eastern Illinois at noon.
