HARRISONBURG, Va. -- In their first action of the 2010 season the UNC Asheville volleyball team fell to region rival Davidson, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19), on Friday night in the first match of the JMU Coca-Cola Classic hosted by James Madison at Sinclair Gymnasium.
Kelsey Benorden recorded a match-high 13 kills for the Bulldogs while recording a hitting percentage of .323. Cindi Miller finished second on the team with six kills with teammate Jenna Dover adding five of her own.
However, Asheville was only able to muster 28 kills as a team while giving up 10 service aces by the Wildcats.
Davidson tallied 46 kills as a team with Christine Perzinski leading the way with 10. Jordan Benedict recorded nine kills to help the Wildcats' effort with Erin Lupfer and Sarabeth Peele adding eight kills apiece.
Hallie Morse earned 18 assists with Rachel Guinane chipping in eight of her own. Alex Stewart posted 10 digs with Miller adding nine to the Asheville total.
Ariel Ley and Hayley Lawson tallied 22 and 20 assists, respectively, while splitting time at setter and Jennifer Chamblee served up four aces to help the Davidson cause.
UNC Asheville will play two matches tomorrow to finish out the JMU Classic beginning with host-James Madison at 12:30 p.m. before finishing the day with Stetson University at 5 p.m.
