KEIZER, OR. - It may have taken awhile for former Bulldog Justin Schumer to sign a professional contract but he's quickly making an impact in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Schumer was promoted last week by the Giants from Rookie Ball in the Arizona League to the Class A Short Season club Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Justin was signed by San Francisco in early July to a free agent contract after not getting drafted in June. He reported to Arizona in mid-July and pitched in three games without giving up a run. Schumer earned a win in his professional debut on July 24 when he came on in relief against the Arizona Indians. He pitched in three games, a total of 5.2 innings with one start, striking out four and walking four.

Schumer made his Salem-Keizer debut on Saturday at Eugene. He pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and two hits allowed.
