ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville baseball team gets back to work this weekend when the Bulldogs travel to Presbyterian College for a three-game Big South Conference series starting Friday at 3 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday at 2 p.m. and finish Sunday at 1 p.m.

Asheville (8-17, 2-7 BSC) needs some league wins to make a move in the conference standings. It will not be easy against an improved Blue Hose squad. PC (8-20, 1-5 BSC) knocked off USC Upstate on Tuesday, 3-1 and own a league win over Gardner-Webb this year.

"Presbyterian is much improved this season and will be tough to beat on the road," stated Asheville coach Tom Smith. "We need to start winning some games though. It's no fun to keep coming close. Our guys need to find a way to start winning some one-run games."

Asheville lost three straight last weekend to #29 VMI at home. The Bulldogs had leads and chances to win each one of those games but just couldn't get it done.

"We need to execute a little better, and we'll start finding ways to win," added Smith. "Our effort is quite good but just need to start doing the little things that help you win."

Freshman catcher Ian Graham continues to lead Asheville in hitting with a .341 average. Justin Schumer and Danny Baatz are tied for the team lead in homers (3) and RBI (16).

Asheville's pitching rotation this weekend will most likely be left-hander Drew Spear, right-hander Ryan Dull and Schumer.
