ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Former UNC Asheville pitcher Alan DeRatt has rejoined the Asheville Tourists Single A team and will be with the Tourists starting tonight at Lexington, Ky.
DeRatt, the 2008 Big South Conference Pitcher of the Year, was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the spring of 2008. He pitched for Casper before becoming the first UNC Asheville player to ever play for the Asheville Tourists last season. DeRatt helped lead the Tourists to a second-half championship.
He had been in extended spring training before getting the call to play for the Tourists last night. DeRatt is scheduled to work out of the bullpen during his stay with Asheville. He went 2-4 in 2008 for the Tourists with a 5.03 ERA. DeRatt struck out 71 hitters in 78.2 innings of work and walked just 18 batters.
The Tourists begin an eight-game homestand starting Saturday night at McCormick Field when they host Augusta at 7 p.m.
