ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville baseball team heads to High Point this weekend for a three-game Big South Conference series with the Panthers. The series begins on Friday with a game at 6 p.m., followed by a Saturday game at 3 p.m. and Sunday's finale at 1 p.m. All three games will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.bigsouthsports.com.

The Bulldogs (11-22, 5-10 BSC) will be trying to snap a five-game losing streak on Friday. Two of those losses have been by one and the other two were by two runs.

"We're so close to winning some more games with a play here or a play there but right now we're just not making enough plays," commented first-year Bulldog skipper Tom Smith. "Our guys are playing hard and competing but hopefully we can find a way to win some games here soon."

Smith expects a tough series with the Panthers (19-21, 5-10 BSC). High Point edged Elon on the road Wednesday night, 6-4. They've already beaten Charlotte and Wake Forest this season plus beat Winthrop twice.

"High Point really hits the ball," declared Smith. "They've got a good ballclub, and they've beaten some good teams this year. We're going to have to play very well to have a chance to win this weekend."

Asheville is scheduled to start sophomore right-hander Ryan Dull (4-1, 3.60 ERA) on the mound on Friday evening.

Senior Justin Schumer is red-hot for the Bulldogs at the plate. He leads Asheville in hitting with a .368 average and is on a seven-game hitting streak. Schumer tops the club in homers (6) and RBI (28). In his last eight games, the senior infielder has had at least three hits in five of those contests.
