04.02.2010 | Men's Tennis
The women's team hopes to stay hot. The Bulldogs are 11-5 on the season and have won nine of their last 10 matches. They'll face a stiff test in Winthrop. The Lady Eagles are a traditional league power, and Asheville has not beaten Winthrop in a dual match in a long time. Lise Gregory's club is 3-2 in league play.
The Bulldogs have shown good balance during their winning streak getting victories from everyone in both the singles and doubles line-up. Leslie Smith was named Big South Player of the Week on Tuesday and has posted a 10-6 singles record at #1 flight during the season. Britney Cloer is 10-3 in singles play at three different flights. Nicole Schon has a 10-4 mark in singles play at three flights.
On the doubles side, the Bulldogs are 36-11 during the year overall. The #1 team of Stephanie Schon and Smith have posted a 13-3 record this year.
On the men's side, Asheville (4-9, 0-2 BSC) hopes to turn around an injury-filled season. Freshman Adrien Langeard was schedule to be the Bulldogs top player this year but has been sidelined for much of the year. He did play in Asheville's 7-0 win over Winston-Salem State on Tuesday and should be ready to go this weekend. Senior Nicola Nonnenbroich has enjoyed a solid year in singles play with a 6-6 record. The doubles team of Jonas Brobeck and Matt Waissen are also 6-6 on the year.
