Baseball Hosts Mars Hill on Monday in Home Opener

First-year coach Tom Smith's team is 4-7 on the young season and posted some impressive road victories in the early going. Asheville upset College of Charleston 18-8 in the second week of the season and also knocked off Campbell, Bryant College and Wofford this year.
This will be the first ever meeting between Asheville and Mars Hill. The teams have met in the fall but never played a regular season game. The Lions are14-7 on the year and just completed a three-game sweep of Newberry this past weekend. Mars Hill is ranked 29th in the latest NCAA Division II poll.
The Bulldogs have done a good job hitting the ball in the first part of the season. Asheville is hitting. 299 coming into Monday's game. Two freshmen lead Asheville at the plate. Rookie catcher Ian Graham tops the Bulldogs with a .389 average, while second baseman Robert McIntosh is hitting .342. Junior outfielder Danny Baatz is hitting .314 and has two home runs and leads Asheville in RBI with 12.
Monday's game begins a busy week for the Bulldogs. They'll play at Western Carolina on Tuesday night and then open Big South Conference play at Radford (March 19-21) in a three-game series next weekend.
Fans coming to Monday's game or any games at Greenwood Field are reminded that parking is limited around Greenwood Field due to construction on the North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness and renovations on the Karl Straus Track. The best place to park is in one of the parking lots near Justice Center. Fans will need to enter one of Justice Center's two entrances and then go through the Health & Fitness Center out to the field.
