College of Charleston Edges UNC Asheville 12-11 in Baseball Action

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Hunter Dodd's solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning gave College of Charleston a 12-11 win over visiting UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at Patriot's Point.
The Bulldogs (2-3) battled back from a 5-1 deficit and 11-8 deficit to tie the game 11-11. Asheville pounded out 13 hits in the game with six different players getting two hits each. First baseman Mike Vaughn went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Catlin Carter and Beau Zinman also drove in two runs.
Asheville trailed 11-8 entering the top of the eighth inning but struck for three runs with some two-out lightning. Ian Graham drove in the first run with a RBI-single to cut the lead to 11-9. Zinman followed with a two-run single to tie the game at 11-11.
Vaughn gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead in the second with a RBI single before the Cougars struck for two runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 2-1.
College of Charleston led 5-1 before Asheville struck for seven runs in the fifth inning to grab an 8-5 lead. Carter and Vaughn had key two-run singles to spark the uprising. Two other runs scored on a wild pitch and passed ball with Cody Buch driving in another run on a sacrifice fly.
"I really like the way we swung the bats today," commented Asheville coach Tom Smith. "We're playing a good team in College of Charleston and did a good job battling back. I like the way we're battling right now. We're getting better with each game."
The teams will play the third and final game of the series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Asheville will start junior right-hander Taylor Wohlwend.
