HIGH POINT, N.C. - High Point scored the first 17 points of the game as the Panthers rolled to a 78-49 Big South Conference victory over UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at the Millis Center.

The Bulldogs (7-18, 2-11 BSC) were led by Kelli Riles with 12 points, while Lindsey Thompson added 10 points. It was the second straight game for Riles in double figures.

High Point was led by Erin Reynolds with 15 points.

Asheville struggled with its offense on the day. The Bulldogs shot just 28 percent (18-of-63) from the field and committed 23 turnovers.

The Panthers held Asheville scoreless over the first eight minutes of the game as they built a 17-0 lead. Lindsey Thompson finally got the Bulldogs on the board with a three-pointer to make it 17-3.

Asheville made a run to close to 32-17 on another trey from Thompson with five minutes to go in the half. The Bulldogs were within 37-21 late in the first but the Panthers scored the final five points of the half to lead 42-21 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Asheville crept to 44-27 on a jumper from Riles but High Point quickly went on a 15-2 run to race to a 59-29 lead.

Kendall Shepard added seven points for Asheville. Lindsey Montgomery was held to nine points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs will have the week off before hosting defending Big South champion Liberty next Saturday (Feb. 27) at 2 p.m.
