Indoor Track and Field Squad Competes in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field teams completed their final preparations before the Big South Conference meet on a snowy Friday afternoon at the Gene Anderson Invitational hosted by UNC Chapel Hill.
Freshman Melanie Kulesz had the best finish of the afternoon for the Bulldog women. Kulesz finished 11th in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:37.45 in her season debut.
Sophomore Sam Maynard led the way for the Bulldog men. Maynard finished 13th in the 800meters with a time of 1:59.05.
Raymond Urrutia lowered his school record in the 60 meters by .01 (7.04) in the preliminaries to advance to the finals. He finished 15th in the finals with a time of 7.09. Urrutia who also competed in the 400 meters and finished 14th (51.99) owns the schools' top three fastest times ever ran at 60 meters.
Other highlights of the afternoon included, Alyska Kalmeijer finishing 21st in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.32. Kent Rankin finished 23rd in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:12.39.
The Bulldogs return to action next Thursday at the Mountaineer Open in Boone on February 18. A limited squad that will consist of jumpers and throwers will only travel.
