Nathan White Goes Unbeaten to Highlight Play for Men's Tennis at UNCG

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The UNC Asheville men's tennis team battled but national power Furman was able to win some close matches and record a 5-0 win over the visiting Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.

In doubles play, Paladin seniors Chris Rhyne and Chris Motes teamed up for an 8-3 win over Matt Waissen and Jonas Brobeck in the number one spot. At number two doubles, Furman junior Sawyer Duncan and freshman Andrew Mellow recorded an 8-6 victory over Nathan White and Nicola Nonnenbroich, while Paladin junior Andrei Chvetsov combined with senior Jordan Walters to defeat Thomas Rees and Adrien Langeard 8-6 at number three doubles.

Furman won four singles points, with Duncan defeating Waissen 7-6, 7-6(4), at number one singles, and Motes beating Nonnenbroich 6-4, 6-4, at number two singles. Walters recorded a 6-2, 7-6(5) win over Brobeck at number three singles, and Paladin freshman Carl Lundberg pulled out a 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 victory over Rees in the fourth singles spot.

The number five and number six matches were unfinished. Chvetsov won the first set over White at number five singles, while UNC Asheville's Alex Appelt had a 3-1 lead over Furman sophomore Watson George in the sixth singles spot.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-2 on the season and will host Brevard on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
