DURHAM,N.C. – Four Bulldogs scored in double figures with junior guard Lindsey Thompson scoring a game-high 21 points as the UNC Asheville women's basketball team earned a 67-56 victory over North Carolina Central on Wednesday evening at McDougald-McLendon Gym on the campus of the Lady Eagles.

“We're still learning how to win on the road and this was a good victory for us,” said Asheville head coach Betsy Blose. “We let them get back into the game after building a big lead so we've got to learn how to put teams away.”

Lindsey Montgomery and Kendall Shepard each scored 15 for the Blue & White with Kelli Riles chipping in 12 to the Bulldogs' total. Thompson also led the team in rebounds with 10, giving the Copper Hill, Va. Native her first career double-double. It was also Thompson's fifth 20-point game of the season.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-4 on the season with the win and are now 3-2 on the road.

NC Central got a team-high 19 points from Jori Nwachukwu who also posted a team-high 10 rebounds. Chasidy Williams scored 12 for the Lady Eagles who fall to 2-10 this season.

For the second consecutive game Asheville's Riles finished one rebound short of her sixth double-double of the season as the sophomore secured nine boards for the Bulldogs, including eight in the first half.

The first half saw the two teams struggle early before each offense was able to settle down. The Bulldogs took a 40-29 lead into halftime against NCCU on the strength of 16 first half points by Thompson. Thompson connected on four 3-pointers and combined with Montgomery (13 points) for 29 of Asheville's first half points.

The Lady Eagles were able to contain Montgomery and Thompson in second half as the two combined to score only seven points. In contrast Shepard scored 12 of her 15 points in the second period in helping lead the Bulldogs to the 11-point win.

“Fortunately for us there's not one player you can key on,” added Blose. “If it's not Lindsey Thompson then it's Kendall (Shepard) or somebody else stepping up. It shows how much balance we have this year.”

Asheville is now 3-1 lifetime against NCCU.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Jan. 3 when they open Big South Conference play against Radford in a contest set for 7 p.m. at the Justice Center.
