ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will travel to Boone, N.C., tonight to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a non-conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m. at the Holmes Center. ASU is currently 5-1 on the season and is undefeated at home.

“We fell pretty hard the other not and I'm looking forward to seeing how our team responds,” said Asheville head coach Betsy Blose. “Besides Marquette, Liberty and High Point, ASU may be one of the best if not the best team we play all season. The key is we have to handle the pressure and have a confident mindset on offense.”

Asheville enters tonight's contest with Appalachian State with a record of 3-2 on the season and a 1-0 mark on the road. The Bulldogs defeated Campbell University of the Atlantic Sun Conference 78-75 at Buies Creek, N.C. in their only road contest of the year thus far.

Appalachian State leads the all-time series 11-3 but the Bulldogs won the last meeting between the two. Asheville earned a 70-61 win on Dec. 18, 2003 at home in the Justice Center. The last time the Blue & White traveled to Boone, N.C., the results were not as favorable. The Mountaineers defeated Asheville 68-35 to open the 2002-03 season in head coach Betsy Blose's first year with the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs suffered a 71-61 setback to Brevard College Monday evening at home in the Justice Center. The Tornadoes converted on eight 3-pointers en route to shooting 40.4 percent for the game. BC went to the line 30 times and made 17 attempts on their way to the 10-point victory, as they improve to 4-4 on the season. Asheville got a game-high 18 points from senior guard Kendall Shepard who also garnered seven rebounds, six assists and four steals in over 39 minutes of play. Kelli Riles recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Lindsey Thompson had 13 points and nine rebounds.  Along with Riles, Shepard and Thompson, starters Breaira Barksdale and Grace Blaylock accounted for 59 of the Bulldogs' 61 points.
