Asheville Falls On The Road To Marquette, 75-46

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team fell to Marquette University 75-46 on Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center as the Golden Eagles' Courtney Weibel set the school record for 3-pointers made in a game, hitting eight treys to lead all players with 24 points in the contest.
Marquette (9-2) held Asheville to its lowest point total this season. The Bulldogs (5-4) previous low was against Western Carolina on Nov. 17 when the Blue & White posted 59 in a 19-point loss.
Weibel was one of three Golden Eagles to score in double figures with teammates Paige Fiedorowicz and Katherine Plouffe scoring 16 and 10, respectively. Sarina Simmons pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and Angel Robinson dished out five assists for Marquette.
The Bulldogs were led on offense Lindsey Montgomery and Kendall Shepard who each posted 12 points. Lindsey Thompson scored 11 and Kelli Riles pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Wisconsin native Dana Wagner scored seven points and pulled down four rebounds in front of family and friends who made the trip from her hometown of Sun Prairie. It was her first game in her home state since coming to Asheville.
Asheville was out-rebounded 42-34 by the Golden Eagles while also committing 25 turnovers on offense. Marquette picked up 15 steals in the contest.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they hit the road once again to take on Mercer University of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
