ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The improving UNC Asheville women's basketball team got some good news this week when the Bulldogs found out that they had received three votes in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.

Asheville has a 5-3 record so far this season and is much improved from last year's 8-22 campaign. The Bulldogs lead the Big South Conference in scoring with a 76.5 average.

It's the first Asheville has ever received votes in the poll.

"This is some great news about our team receiving votes in the Mid-Major poll," explained Bulldog coach Betsy Blose. "We believe we're a much improved team this year and it's nice to see some people are taking notice. We still have a lot of room to grow plus we know it's a long season. However, we're off to a good start this year, and we want to keep it going."

The Bulldogs start a three-game road trip at Marquette of the Big East Conference Saturday night at 8 p.m. Asheville plays at Mercer (Dec. 22) and North Carolina Central (Dec. 29) before returning home to open Big South Conference play vs. Radford on Jan. 3.
