ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team plays its first road game on Saturday at Campbell University starting at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs (1-1) play a Lady Camels' squad that is 0-3 on the season, coming off an 85-81 overtime loss at Wofford on Wednesday night. Asheville fell at home to Western Carolina Wednesday night, 78-59 after opening the season with a victory over Montreat, 78-65.

"Our effort has been terrific in our first two games, but we just need to play a little more consistently," commented Bulldog coach Betsy Blose. "We just couldn't put it together for a long enough stretch against Western Carolina Wednesday. Every time we made a run, they would hit a shot or we'd turn it over and they would get a basket. We just have to play a little smarter for 40 minutes."

Asheville will have a tough test at Campbell on Saturday. The Lady Camels may be 0-3 but have lost to some good teams. The game will also be their home opener.

"Campbell has a good team," stated Blose. "They've played some tough teams on the road and fell a little short. I'm sure they're looking forward to playing a home game."

Kendall Shepard leads the Bulldogs at 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The senior guard tallied 21 against Montreat and registered 17 points in Asheville's loss to WCU. Junior guard Lindsey Thompson is also averaging 17.0 points and 3.0 assists per contest for the Bulldogs. Kelli Riles and Breaira Barksdale are both collecting 8.0 points per game.

Campbell has dominated the Bulldogs in Buies Creek and holds a 13-1 all-time mark against Asheville. The Lady Camels won last year's meeting, 78-67 in Asheville.
