Bulldog Baseball Finishes Fall Season
11.11.2010 | Baseball
Second-year coach Tom Smith believes his team accomplished a great deal in the fall.
"We're a lot further along than we were last year at this time," explained Smith. "I really like the way our guys came together in the fall. Our veteran players welcomed our new guys and it made the fall go quite smoothly."
Coach Smith and his staff brought in 17 new players to the Bulldog program.
"Our new guys made an impact in the fall," stated Smith. "I was really encouraged by our freshmen on the mound. We had some guys really step up and show that they're going to be counted on this spring."
The Bulldogs went 17-35 in 2010. They used a late five-game BSC winning streak late in the season to sneak into seventh place in the final Big South Conference standings. Asheville was a preseason pick to finish in 10th place. The Bulldogs qualified for the play-in round of the Big South Tournament before falling to VMI, 6-4.
Coach Smith is expecting much more success in 2010.
"The Bulldogs are going to much better in 2011," declared Smith. "We have a lot more depth and options than we had last season. We're going to be much improved, and I can't wait for the season to start."
The Bulldogs hope to release their 2011 schedule shortly.
