Miller Goes For 18 Kills While Bulldogs Extend Win Streak To Six

RADFORD, Va. – Outside hitter Cindi Miller added another impressive performance to her junior campaign while the UNC Asheville defense posted a season-high 14.5 blocks as the Bulldogs defeated Big South Conference foe Radford 3-1 at the Dedmon Center in volleyball action on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs won sets one, three and four by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17 while dropping the second set 13-25. Asheville increased its winning streak to six matches at the Bulldogs improve to 10-6 on the season with a 3-0 mark in conference play. The Highlanders fall to 6-11 overall and 0-3 in the Big South.
Middle blocker Meredith Foster posted a career-high 10 blocks with Miller chipping in another six. As a team the Bulldogs recorded 14.5 blocks (two solo), holding the Radford offense to a hitting percentage of .067.
“This is tough place to play and I'm glad for the win, but there are definitely some things we need to work on,” said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. “It was an odd match in that each set was so lopsided, even the set that we lost. One bright spot that we can take away is our 14.5 blocks.”
The Highlanders' Laura Waddell tallied a team-high 12 kills with teammate Carly Fleming adding 11 to Radford's total of 51. RU actually recorded 12 more total kills than Asheville, but also committed 39 attack errors to just 12 for the Bulldogs.
Rachel Guinane and Hallie Morse each tallied 16 assists for Asheville while splitting time at setter and Kelsey Benorden recorded 21 digs to lead all Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the High Point Panthers in another road match for Asheville. Start time for the match is set for 4 p.m.
