Bulldogs Win Sixth in a Row 83-69 Over High Point

The Bulldogs (9-12, 6-4 BSC) had four other players score in double figures in the victory. Sean Smith chipped in 14 pints, while Matt Dickey and Chris Stephenson added 12 points each. John Williams finished with 11 points and six blocked shots.
The Panthers (10-10, 5-5 BSC) were led by Eugene Harris and Nick Barbour with 13 points each. Cruz Daniels enjoyed his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Asheville shot a season-high 63 percent (31-of-49) from the field. The Bulldogs knocked down 50 percent (5-of-10) of their three-point attempts. The home team went 80 percent (16-of-20) from the free throw line.
"We played very well tonight against a well-coached High Point team," stated Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "I really like the way we passed the ball this evening. We got beat pretty good on the boards but played good defense and executed on offense."
High Point had a 38-31 advantage on the boards and had 23 offensive rebounds to just seven for Asheville. The Panthers had 28 second-chance points to six for the Bulldogs. However, the home team did outscore High Point in the pain, 52-47.
Asheville led 43-38 at halftime and built the lead to 59-47 on a Williams dunk at the 10:40 mark. The Panthers chipped away and closed to 68-62 with four minutes left when Barbour hit two free throws.
The Bulldogs then took seal the win with a 7-0 run over the next two minutes. Dickey hit a free throw, missed the second but Williams got the rebound and fed D.J. Cunningham for a lay-up to push the lead to 71-62 at the 2:44 mark.
Dickey hit two free throws and scored on a lay-up to increase the margin to 75-62. A tap-in from Daniels made it 75-64 with 1:20 left. Primm put it away with a three-pointer in transition to give the Dogs a 78-64 lead at the one-minute mark.
In the first half, Asheville shot 63 percent (17-of-27) from the field to build a 43-38 halftime lead. The Panthers led 36-34 with three minutes to go in the half before the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good at 43-36. Freshman Jaron Lane scored the final two buckets of the run to get Asheville the seven-point lead. Ernest Bridges hit a shot with two second to go in the half for High Point to trim the lead to five.
Smith was perfect from the field in the first half for Asheville and led the Dogs with nine points. He was 4-of-4 from the field and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe. Corey Law had all nine of his points in the opening half for the Panthers.
UNC Asheville hosts Big South Conference leader Radford at Justice Center on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. High Point visits Gardner-Webb Saturday night at 7 p.m.
