ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will look for its second win in a row on Monday night when the Bulldogs host Big South-leading High Point at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. Monday's game will be video-streamed and can be seen at www.bigsouthsports.com.
The Bulldogs (6-13, 1-5 BSC) broke a five-game losing streak on Friday night with a 64-58 non-conference win over North Carolina Central. High Point improved to 12-7 on the year and 5-1 in league play with a 69-64 victory at Presbyterian on Saturday night.
"It was nice to win on Friday," said Asheville coach Betsy Blose. "We did a good job on the boards and when the game got close we found a way to get the victory. However, we're going to have to play better against High Point on Monday."
Chioma Okoli led the way for the Bulldogs against N.C. Central with a career-high 24 points points and career-best 14 rebounds. Lindsey Montgomery earned her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Asheville out-rebounded the Lady Eagles, 50-28. However, the Bulldogs committed 30 turnovers in the game.
"We had way too many turnovers on Friday," stated Blose. "We were fortunate to win when you turn it over so many times."
The Panthers will be a tough game for the Bulldogs on Monday.
"I'm very impressed with High Point," commented Blose. "They beat Florida at Florida and that was a great win for our league. They seem to be playing very well right now."
The teams played three times last year with High Point winning twice, including a 72-67 victory in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament. The Panthers won 59-51 in the regular-season game at High Point before the Bulldogs earned a 68-59 win at Justice Center.
