Asheville (5-11, 1-3 BSC) played last on Monday night and lost a disappointing 65-54 road decision to league foe Presbyterian College. The Bulldogs let the Blue Hose go on a 16-3 run in the last seven minutes of the first half to take control of the game and pick up its second win of the year.
"We didn't play very well at Presbyterian, and we're disappointed with the way we performed," admitted Bulldog coach Betsy Blose. "We've worked hard in practice to try and turn things around, but games at Radford and Liberty are tough places to try and turn things around."
Asheville's big problem lately has been scoring. The Bulldogs are only averaging 58.6 points per game but have only averaged 52 points in the three losses. Asheville has scored below 60 points in six straight games with the Bulldogs getting wins in two of those games.
"We've got to be better on offense," commented Blose. "We're not getting a whole lot out of our defense to feed our offense. We're having a tough time shooting the ball, especially from the three-point line."
Asheville's doing a nice job on defense for the most part and it's out-rebounding its opponents by close to four per game (40.0-36.2).
"We've battled on the boards and done some good things on defense, but we need to be more consistent in those areas, as well," added Blose.
The Bulldogs play a Radford team that has fought back from a tough non-conference slate to post a 2-1 league record. The Highlanders have a 3-11 overall record but have won two of their last three games.
"Radford played a lot of good teams in its non-conference schedule and struggled," stated Blose. "However, they've picked things up in league play and own a win at Gardner-Webb. They're really starting to play well and are always tough to beat at home."
NOTES - Lindsey Montgomery leads the Big South in rebounding with a 9.9 average and posted five double-doubles on the season...freshman guard Grace Blaylock scored a career-high 15 points at Presbyterian College...Asheville has not won at Radford since the 2003-04 season and lost five straight games at the Dedmon Center...the Bulldogs have out-rebounded six of their last nine opponents with two of those teams only out-rebounding Asheville by just one rebound...the Bulldogs have more free throws made (250) than their opponents have taken (239).
