Women's Basketball Faces Presbyterian Tonight at 7 p.m.
01.11.2010 | Women's Basketball
The Bulldogs (5-10, 1-2 BSC) battled hard at Big South foe Gardner-Webb on Saturday but lost 70-54. Asheville led for much of the first half and by two early in the second half before the Runnin' Bulldogs went on a 20-0 run to seize control of the game.
Asheville faces a Presbyterian (1-12, 0-1 BSC) team that is struggling as it makes the transition to Division I. However, Bulldog coach Besty Blose expects a very tough game with the Blue Hose.
"Presbyterian has played a very tough schedule. They've been on the road for much of the year, so their record is a little misleading," explained Blose. "We've always struggled to win at PC, and I expect it to be a very challenging game on Monday."
The Bulldogs won both meetings last year as they won 62-36 at Justice Center and 67-58 at the Templeton Center.
Junior forward Lindsey Montgomery continues to have a great year for Asheville. She's averaging 12.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Montgomery leads the Bulldogs in blocked shots (19) and steals (21).
After Monday's game at Presbyterian, the Bulldogs stay on the road with games at Radford (Jan. 16) and Liberty (Jan. 18).
NOTES - Lindsey Montgomery has posted double-doubles in four of the last eight games...junior guard Chioma Okoli scored a season-high 14 points at Gardner-Webb...the Bulldogs have won two of their last four games...Asheville has out-rebounded three of its last four opponents and only lost by one at Gardner-Webb (37-36) on Saturday...the Bulldogs have had at least 21 turnovers in five straight games...Asheville has made more free throws (236) than its opponents have attempted (218) this season.
