Miotto Receives Third Big South Accolade

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-UNC Asheville libero Raquel Miotto has been named Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season for matches played from Sept. 21-27. Liberty's Chelaine McCarty was named Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while teammate Loren Thomas was tabbed the Freshman of the Week.
Miotto, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, came up with 51 digs, 5.67 digs per set and totaled four aces to help the Bulldogs to two Big South wins last week. The libero got things going with 24 digs and one ace as Asheville defeated Gardner-Webb, 3-1, on Sept. 22. On Sept. 25 at Radford, Miotto posted 27 digs, three aces and two kills in the Bulldogs' 3-2 win over the Highlanders. Miotto has seven matches with at least 20 or more digs and has been in double figures in digs in 17 of 18 matches. She now has 2,319 career digs which is 15 shy of Jennifer Alexander (Western Illinois, 2003-06) for 10th place on the NCAA career dig list.
Miotto and the Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 2, as UNC Asheville hosts Charleston Southern at 7 p.m. in Justice Center. The match will be video streamed live on the Big South Network at bigsouthsports.com.
